Thanks for the nice comments guys! Terry, you can seal the pewter with paste wax, I just finish it with the handle. But if you put wax on it, it wont take the patina as fast as if you just leave it...

McMaster and Track of the wolf carry the lower temp cerro alloys. United Nuclear also carries wood's metal but it's pretty spendy.

Yes, You can use the plumbers solder, but you have to make sure the kind you buy is LEAD FREE. I have used it and it works.

The low temp cerro alloy I use has lead and cadmium in it. You just have to make sure you do not overheat it to the out gassing temps of the two toxic metals. And don't put whatever you make with it...
